Clean Up Your Mess is a campaign led by Albertan landowners and their allies to ensure that Alberta’s oil and gas industry properly funds and carries out its cleanup obligations.
About Us

The campaign is supported by the Coalition for Responsible Energy (C4RE), an Alberta-based coalition of landowners, concerned citizens, scientists, and surface rights advocates alongside Indigenous, environmental, human health, and civil society organizations.
A key focus of our campaign is on stopping the implementation of the Alberta government’s “Mature Asset Strategy” (MAS), a plan developed by industry insiders to weaken oil and gas cleanup standards and leave Albertans with a multi-billion dollar cleanup bill for the almost 330,000 unreclaimed wells in this province.
Our campaign involves mobilizing thousands of Albertans to speak up in opposition to the industry plan. To do that, we
-
Engage in public education about how the Mature Asset Strategy will harm Albertans and raise our taxes;
-
Host town halls across the province to hear from Albertans who are affected by aging oil and gas wells;
-
Organize with Albertans to:
-
write letters to our MLAs
-
share our stories of how we’re impacted by this issue,
-
and build pressure on politicians to stop the MAS.
-
Our goal is to ensure the oil and gas industry adheres to Canada’s “polluter pays” laws and fully funds the cleanup of their oil and gas wells, pipelines, and facilities across the province.
To keep up with the campaign, you can follow us on Facebook, Instagram, BluSky and X and sign up for our Substack newsletter, The Drill and Dash Report.

Albertans clean up after themselves.
So should oil and gas.
Join thousands of Albertans who are fed up, and taking action to stop the oil and gas industry from dining on profits – then dashing on their cleanup bills.
